Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sheba Medical Centre (SMC), one of the top 10 leading medical institutions in the world, to form a framework for cooperation that develops and enhances the healthcare services and performances to meet the needs of a healthier community.

The MoU will allow the entities to consolidate their efforts to improve the country’s healthcare system and elevate the patients’ experience with the highest quality care, positioning the Emirate as a prominent destination for medical tourists. The two entities showed interest in collaborating and stimulating innovation in healthcare and identifying, developing and monitoring patient care treatments through the exchange of knowledge, best medical practices and methodologies.

In the presence H.E Abdulla bin Mohamed Al Hamed, Chairman of DoH, the partnership agreement was signed by H.E Dr. Jamal Mohammed Alkaabi, Undersecretary of DoH, Professor Yitshak Kreiss, Director General of SMC, Mr. Yoel Har-even, Director of the International Division and Resource Development at SMC and Eitan Na’eh, Israeli Ambassador to the UAE.

Followed the signing of the MoU, H. E. Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi said: “The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi continues to devote its best efforts to enhance the healthcare sector outcomes and ensures the provision of the most advanced healthcare services in accordance with the highest international standards, reflecting its keenness to establish effective partnerships with local and international leading medical institutions.”

Professor Yitshak Kreiss said, “The Abraham Accords has given Israel and UAE a unique opportunity to cooperate on healthcare services and advance digital health to benefit our communities. We are delighted to establish partnerships with healthcare institutions in Abu Dhabi who have a shared vision that knows no boundaries.”

The MoU is a significant step towards exploring opportunities in the field of health and medical research that will contribute to a healthier and safer community. In addition, both entities will cooperate to develop and strengthen cutting-edge research and advance the healthcare services for patients in several aspects including telemedicine and the use of artificial intelligence.
